During the 'mountain man' era (about 1810 to 1840), fur trappers and traders would hold a yearly gathering, called a rendezvous [rahn'-day-voo], at a pre-determined place deep in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. At these wilderness gatherings the trappers would sell their pelts and purchase needed supplies, but there was much more to it. Encamped together for a week or more, they used the opportunity to swap tall tales, share important information, form or renew friendships (often over a jug of "baldface"), and compete in various games of skill and chance. The rendezvous made it possible for the mountain men to stay in the high country year round, which was how they liked it. Besides, in those days a journey back to 'civilization' could take weeks, even months. Today, Wasatch Rendezvous continues the old mountain man traditions of trading dependable gear and sharing important information. (We keep up the other traditions too, but ya gotta come camping with us for that). Making it possible for modern-day mountain men and their families to get as far from civilization as possible, without sacrificing comfort and safety, is the reason we're in business. Every product we sell has been something we've used on our own camping, hunting and fishing excursions, and we'll let you know how we liked it, "swar by hook", straight truth. And we'll only sell products that, in our opinion, cut the mustard. We invite you to poke around and see what we have to offer. Be sure to join our forum, where you can share information on the outdoor scene in your neck of the woods, suggest campsites, trails, off-roading areas, products, or just discuss what's on your mind. We'd love to hear from you! Check back often, as we're always on the lookout for a great deal, which, of course, we'll pass along to you An' don't fergit yer possibles (small but highly valuable items needed for survival) an' yer foofuraw (trinkets given to keep the locals friendly) befur leavin! |
